Instantaneous Counts of Recreational Beach Anglers from Progressive Angler Survey (PAS) - Monterey County

Progressive Angler Survey: Instantaneous counts of recreational beach anglers in northern Monterey County from 2007 to 2020. Excel spreadsheet contains instantaneous counts, using Progressive Angler Survey (PAS) methodology, of recreational surf anglers fishing on sandy beaches from Carmel north to Zmudowski State Beach (northern half of Monterey County). From 1 to 6 four PAS were completed each month from April 2007 to December 2020 (no data October and November 2012). Beginning in 2009, usually four PAS were completed each month, two on weekend/holiday mornings and two on weekday mornings. These were considered "indicator" surveys. Anglers were included in the count if they were arriving at, or leaving from, the site when the observer arrived. The observer remained at each site only long enogh to get an accurate count; during foggy mornings this sometimes necessitated walking the beach. Beginning in 2012, sea surface temperature was recorded (Fahenheit) from the morning of the count, using the reading from the offshore Monterey Bay NOAA buoy. More detailed counts by specifc site for indicator surveys are located in another CDFW data base (PAS counts) This data and metadata were submitted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Staff though the Data Management Plan (DMP) framework with the id: DMP000087.
