Statewide Managed Wetland Water Use Data (2016–2020)

The Department of Water Resources (DWR), Water Use Efficiency Branch, Water Use Unit Program, has developed an Excel-based application tool designed to calculate annual estimates of crop evapotranspiration (ETc), effective precipitation (Ep), evapotranspiration of applied water (ETaw), and applied water (AW) for managed wetland areas across California. These calculations are performed for combinations of Detailed Analysis Unit and County (DAUCO). The statewide managed wetland water use data for water years 2016–2020 were produced by three DWR Regional Offices—Northern Region Office, North Central Region Office, and South Central Region Office—using the managed wetland water use model. These datasets were developed to update information included in the California Water Plan Update 2023. Accordingly, the current Excel application tool covers managed wetland water use data only for water years 2016 through 2020. The Excel tool provides output values for: managed wetland areas (acres), Effective Precipitation (Ep) – unit values (acre-feet per acre) and total volume (acre-feet) Evapotranspiration (ETc) – unit values (acre-feet per acre) and total volume (acre-feet) Evapotranspiration of Applied Water (ETaw) – unit values (acre-feet per acre) and total volume (acre-feet) Applied Water (AW) – unit values (acre-feet per acre) and total volume (acre-feet) Outputs are available for water years 2016–2020 at multiple spatial scales, accessible through a dropdown menu: Detailed Analysis Unit by County Detailed Analysis Unit (DAU) County Planning Area (PA) Hydrologic Region (HR) Statewide The tool incorporates numerous computational and aggregation equations across multiple worksheets. To maintain data integrity and prevent accidental modification, all worksheets are hidden and password protected.
